Assisted Living Services by Caring Companions for Seniors Who LIve-in The Home
The only directory of screened University and College students seeking the experience and opportunity to provide live-in care and companionship for the elderly. Caring companions for seniors are focused on assisting a client with daily living activities while living with the client under the same roof.
Getting old is no walk in the park... It IS your parents' money and their home. Priority one is helping Mom/Dad see how they are in a position to help others just getting started in life. Helping others always trumps feeling like a burden.
It's a tough thing to go from a life of caring for and providing for others to being cared for and living alone. Just knowing that your family is thinking of you and checking in often matters. A live in companion for elderly parents is a start.
We understand. The Sandwich generation worries about their kids AND their parents as a caregiver to both. Live-In Care ensures your parent has both the elderly companion care and assistance they need AND the help you need.
Determining which eldercare options make the most sense takes hard work and research. When your siblings don't participate or understand the time and effort it takes you can lean on us
Worrying about a parent who lives alone can take a big toll on anyone. Selecting live-in care providers able to ensure that the day-to-day needs are met is a key to your peace of mind about your parent.
An Assisted Living Facility or Hourly In-home care averages $4500-$5400/mo. A live-in companion for an elderly parent(s) and providing Free Room and Board to live-in provider(s) keeps costs at $1500/mo
Including an experienced Geriatric Care Manager willing to meet at Mom or Dad's home is a solid first step in evaluating needs, companions, and activities of daily living that matter most. Leaving no stone unturned is essential to thriving at home.
We all need to feel needed and know we matter. Talking with Mom or Dad about how she or he could help a struggling college couple in exchange for elderly care & companionship is a better conversation starter than "You need care."
Ensuring your parent continues to thrive includes helping them continue to do what they love. Elderly companion care and Live-in Care Providers are there to assist (not take over and do everything) Mom or Dad, they just need a safety net.

Medicare does cover/provide home health care services like 1 physical therapy, 2 occupational therapy, 3 speech-language pathology services, 4 intermittent skilled nursing care, and 5 medical social services; essentially, services that are considered medically necessary and provided on a part-time or intermittent basis, including some limited home health aide care when paired with skilled nursing or therapy services. Key points about Medicare home health coverage:
Geriatric care management is the process of planning and coordinating care of the elderly and others with physical and/or mental impairments to meet their long term care needs, improve their quality of life, and maintain their independence for as long as possible. Wikipedia
YES. Information coming soon...
A Geriatric Care Manager-GCM participates in the intake process of hiring and care provider placement to help guide the process. He/She ensures everyone has all the necessary information for the care provider's', the family, and client to thrive. The GCM typically meets weekly with the client, care providers, family, and power of attorney 2X a month in the home and 2X a month remotely over Zoom or on a phone call to check in.
Standard compensation for live-in care providers is $1000/mo plus free room and board, with a separate bathroom and bedroom. The care providers sign a live-in care agreement for at least 12 months.
If you reduce the 168 weekly hours by 1 1/2 days and divide $1000 by 132 hours your out of pocket is $7.50/hr for around the clock care.
Monthly payments to the care providers may increase based upon increased needs such as bathing, showering, dressing, shaving, changing depends, small wound care etc. It is up to the family /client to determine how taxes shall be handled and care providers must be notified upon moving in.
Client(s) typically have a designated family member assigned the role of durable Power-of-Attorney. Standard rules of engagement allow for all family members to communicate appreciation and gratitude to the CPs. In the case of requests for changes, complaints, frustration, or misunderstandings...the designated Power-Of-Attorney should be the only party speaking directly to the care providers.
A terminal diagnosis for anyone is tough. The family or client on hospice can hire live-in care providers under the same terms of $1000/mo + Free Room and Board for at least 12 mos. The hospice care exception is that the client/family also agrees that the care providers are able to stay in the home for up to 90 days, if the client passes away while they are living in the home.
Infrequently, things just don't go as planned. Care Providers who commit to at least a year are required to provide at least 30 days' notice if circumstances beyond their control require them to terminate their agreement. The Client/Family has a 90-day guarantee that if the selected CP's don't work out/stay, they are able to interview and hire additional care providers at no additional cost.

We began placing student care providers to live with elderly clients as far back as 1995 with a total of 43 student couples, 1 set of female roomates placed. Historical placements range from from Coalsville on the East to Tooele on the West, and from North SL to Payson on the South.
Keep in mind that the care providers are also interviewing families and clients and able to select the type of client they want to live with and care for. It is required at a minimum they have their own separate bedroom and bathroom. Providing a short video of the home from the outside and inside is required. If the living quarters require new paint and carpet, it is advisable to get that done prior to providing the living space video tour.
It is essential that the family of the elderly person work together to divide and conquer to complete the list of information necessary to manage the elderly client's home.
Information the LIve-in Care Providers need to make a confident decision on a 12-month contract:
Respite care is a way to describe the short-term service that provides relief for the primary caregiver(s), allowing them to take a break from their caregiving duties.
In the live-in care scenario, the client and family need to plan for and arrange 1 1/2 days of weekly respite care (usually half-day on Saturday and an entire day on Sunday) to allow the 24/7 primary care providers some down time.
It is a key to past success and essential for any caregiver to have a break, allowing them to...
Transportation and Sharing Vehicles
The client and family must make a decision as to whether the live-in care providers will be using the client's vehicle to provide transportation to and from appointments, salon, grocery store etc.
If it is the wish of the client to continue to use his/her own car, the insurance needs to reflect the addition. If the couple is going to be expected to utilize their vehicle, it may be important to work out a stipend for gas and miles depending on the frequency of travel.
Household employees are hired persons whose work is controlled by the employer; such employees include live-in care providers, babysitters, nannies, butlers, and cooks. 2 The nanny tax exists because the IRS considers an ongoing household helper as the taxpayer's household employee, rather than an independent contractor. As such, the taxpayer becomes an employer and must pay Social Security, Medicare, and federal and state unemployment taxes on the wages paid to that employee. There may be state-level nanny taxes, as well. The federal and state nanny tax requirements are detailed in IRS Publication 926.3
Internal Revenue Service. "Publication 926: Household Employer's Tax Guide," Pages 4-5. Accessed Jan. 25, 2020.
