The cost of living at UT Live In Care Providers varies depending on the level of care needed. Typical monthly expenses range from $1000/mo to $1500/mo which includes a weekly visit by a Geriatric Care Manager to ensure coordination of care is taking place.

We provide a directory of college students many of whom are studying and considering careers in Nursing, Healthcare, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Gerontology, Occupational Therapy, and Psychology.
The care experience varies widely for all applicants and in Utah they are hired as employees of the client or family and NOT required to maintain any sort of licence or certification for assisting elderly clients with activities of daily living.
Medicare does NOT pay for a live-in care provider providing assistance with activities of daily living.
Medicare does cover/provide home health care services like 1 physical therapy, 2 occupational therapy, 3 speech-language pathology services, 4 intermittent skilled nursing care, and 5 medical social services; essentially, services that are considered medically necessary and provided on a part-time or intermittent basis, including some limited home health aide care when paired with skilled nursing or therapy services.

A Geriatric Care Manager-GCM participates in the intake process of hiring and care provider placement to help guide the process. He/She ensures everyone has all the necessary information for the care provider's', the family, and client to thrive. The GCM typically continues meeting weekly with the client, care providers, family, and power of attorney 2X a month in the home and 2X a month remotely over Zoom or on a phone call to check in. This follow up is built into the pricing.
Standard compensation for live-in care providers is $1000/mo plus free room and board, with a separate bathroom and bedroom. The care providers sign a live-in care agreement for at least 12 months.
If you reduce the 168 weekly hours by 1 1/2 days and divide $1000 by 132 hours your out of pocket is $7.50/hr for around the clock care.
Monthly payments to the care providers may increase based upon increased needs such as bathing, showering, dressing, shaving, changing depends, small wound care etc. It is up to the family /client to determine how taxes shall be handled and care providers must be notified upon moving in.
Client(s) typically have a designated family member assigned the role of durable Power-of-Attorney. Standard rules of engagement allow for all family members to communicate appreciation and gratitude to the CPs. In the case of requests for changes, complaints, frustration, or misunderstandings...the designated Power-Of-Attorney should be the only party speaking directly to the care providers.
A terminal diagnosis for anyone is tough. The family or client on hospice can hire live-in care providers under the same terms of $1000/mo + Free Room and Board for at least 12 mos. The hospice care exception is that the client/family also agrees that the care providers are able to stay in the home for up to 90 days, if the client passes away while they are living in the home.
Infrequently, things just don't go as planned. Care Providers who commit to at least a year are required to provide at least 30 days' notice if circumstances beyond their control require them to terminate their agreement. The Client/Family has a 90-day guarantee that if the selected CP's don't work out/stay, they are able to interview and hire additional care providers at no additional cost.

We began placing student care providers to live with elderly clients as far back as 1995 with a total of 43 student couples, 1 set of female roomates placed. Historical placements range from from Coalsville on the East to Tooele on the West, and from North SL to Payson on the South.
Keep in mind that the care providers are also interviewing families and clients and able to select the type of client they want to live with and care for. It is required at a minimum they have their own separate bedroom and bathroom. Providing a short video of the home from the outside and inside is required. If the living quarters require new paint and carpet, it is advisable to get that done prior to providing the living space video tour.
It is essential that the family of the elderly person work together to divide and conquer to complete the list of information necessary to manage the elderly client's home. The information below can be provided in person in lieu of videos.

Transportation and Sharing Vehicles
The client and family must make a decision as to whether the live-in care providers will be using the client's vehicle to provide transportation to and from appointments, salon, grocery store etc.
If it is the wish of the client to continue to use his/her own car, the insurance needs to reflect the addition. If the couple is going to be expected to utilize their vehicle, it may be important to work out a stipend for gas and miles depending on the frequency of travel.
